This year was always going to be good for Marvel fans in the film department. With Thor: the Dark World and Iron Man 3 set for release later this year, but what Marvel fans certainly weren’t expecting was the announcement of a Marvel straight to DVD animated movie starring the Punisher and Black Widow. The announcement came from the head of Marvel’s TV department and writer of the upcoming Nova ongoing series, Jeph Loeb. I for one am just glad the announcement didn’t come in the form of one of those annoying ‘The future of Marvel NOW is..’ teaser posters, although ‘The future of Marvel NOW is Punishment’ has a nice ring to it (you’re welcome Marvel).
In an interview on the Word Balloon podcast Loeb let slip that the Punisher and Black Widow centric film is set for release shortly after the upcoming Iron Man: Rise of Technovore. In addition Loeb also announced that Marvel currently has 15 animated projects at different stages, most of which have not been officially announced.
Whooo! Black Widow!
